Episode 43 – Bad Guys Special

Episode 43 – Bad Guy Special (right click to download)

Hello friends! Nice of you to join us. How ya feelin’?

Allright, the time has come to shake things up a bit. We’ve brought some company for today’s episode: Bad Guys. Not just any bad guys. The Bad Guys, from London, England. They will pay us a visit real soon. Like, next month soon. November 20th. This little page will tell you all about it.

Now, we may be bastards, but we are a grateful bunch of bastards. Ask and you shall receive, they said. Thus this episode came to be.

Bad Guys sent us 4 tracks (one for each bad dude) from bands that influenced their sound in one way or another. They also sent us some commentary. It’s all audio and integrated on the episode. You’ve heard of radio? It’s like that, only cooler cause we can do whatever the fuck we want. And we did.

So besides having these modern day warriors choose some songs, we got some tracks of our own in there. Shit got wild. Wild west wild. Fuckin town sheriff would run for his dear ol’life if such a podcast would come charging in.

Wait, what’s that in the distance?

Hide the children. This ain’t a Halloween Special. It’s a Bad Guys Special. Fuck you!

Episode 43 – Bad Guys Special

We’re not gonna bother you with too much text this week. This episode literally speaks for itself.

So, that opening bit with crow noises and satanic comedy is a little something Bad Guys cooked especially for us. Cheers for that, mates! We followed it up with “Witness a New Low” from the band’s 2013 debut album. Let the riffs sink in and enjoy.

Now that you are nice and warmed up, we’re letting Bad Guys take central stage and share with you some of their favorite and most influential tracks. Their comments are transcribed below.

STUART LONDON – vocals: “Hello, my name is Stuart London, of London Bad Guys. This is a gnarly, snotty rendition of attitude problems. I love the mundane lyrics on it. Its ‘False Jesii Part 2’ by Pissed Jeans.”

TAMAS KISS – drums: Deep Purple, ‘No one came’ from the album ‘Fireball’. A beautifully assembled heavy rock song, which should still stand against any hard rock bands, ever. My name is Tamas Kiss and I’m the lead drummer in Bad Guys, London.”

PJ MOUNTFORD – double neck lead guitarist: “Hi, I’m PJ, double neck lead guitarist for the London Bad Guys. In 1993 I was in high school, and unable to get a girlfriend. This track amongst many others on a free earache compilation I got may have been the reason why. It’s the ‘Wolverine Blues’ by Entombed.”

DAVID SILVER – double lead guitar: “I’m Dave Silver, I play double lead guitar for Bad Guys. I’ve chosen ‘Skull socks and rope shoes’ by Harvey Milk. It’s just pure filth, with the filthiest guitar solo ever played by a filthy school teacher”

Intermission time…

How’s that for an ass whoopin? Would you like some more? Here’s a little Kiss (not on the ass cheek). They have plenty of mandatory shit and plenty of shit too. “God of Thunder” is pretty great, let’s be honest. Also, enjoy one of Townes Van Zandt’s uncommonly uplifting and genuinely funny songs.

Next up comes two bands we think share some affinity with Bad Guys via their respective labels and then some more. First one is anglo-american TODD. We featured them before and we promised we would have more from then sooner or later. Well, this is the time. Most of TODD’s releases (including the one we’re referring to in this episode) were made through Southern Records, but their last album belongs to Riot Season who, incidentally, is Bad Guys’s label. The two bands share a common taste for doom, sludge, and noise punk references and bands like Melvins and Harvey Milk. And if you think TODD reminds you a bit of Shit and Shine (also published by Riot Season) is because Craig Clouse masterminded both.

We have a feeling the dudes from Bad Guys enjoy some Earache, so we went with Lawnmower Deth, masters of distortion and humor, before matching turbo lovers and prostitutes, priests and bad guys. There you go!
